Castrating Sex Offenders the Answer?????

Video news link on the proposal in Va. to start castrating sex offenders! Wow! Va. politicians need to hit the research on this one before deciding that this is the solution!

  1. I think this is a good idea as long as stipulations are involved. There are some circumstances where castration may not be the correct answer.

  2. I agree. I think it is a good idea if the sex offender is continuing to commit crimes and there are no signs of change. I feel it should be a last resort because it seems to be an extreme solution. I think that each case is different, but if a person continues to commit these crimes and sees no reason to change this should be considered.

  3. I believe this is cruel and unusual punishment. Castration is a primitive, outdated, and cruel way to punish someone. I believe this is excessive, and while these people deserve to be punished, removal of reproductive organs crosses the line.

  5. I believe that the enactment of this law is an unethical attempt to reduce the operating expenses of incarceration by permanently averting lewd behavior. I don’t predict that this punishment will become a normal consequence as it seems cruel, unusual, and morally outdated. Cutting the hands off a thief shares the same logic as the castration of sex offenders does. For this reason I don’t believe that the law has the justification to seize body parts. Being that this body part is particularly special, I wouldn’t wish this upon my worst enemies.

  6. I just found it a little humorous that both Jason and Stefan (being male) did not like this idea at all... Anywho, back to the article, i would have to agree with the guys on this one. People who molest children are sick, mentally. And im sorry but cutting off thier reproductive organs will not do the trick. Although I STRONGLY hate the fact that people like that can do such heinous crimes and only get about three years in prison, cutting them is a little extreme and is "cruel and unusual punishment" as Jason said!

  7. I agree that castration is a harsh punishment. However if the offender is a repeat offender and nothing else has deterred his actions then there should be drastic measure taken. Castrating rapists and other sex offenders may prevent many of them from reoffending

  8. I feel that this is way too harsh and in this day an age is a very out dated form of punishment. I agree I think the cost of prison is getting way too high…but castrating criminals… that’s just not the answer. A cost cutting solution needs to be found that doesn’t involve losing body parts.

  9. With nuts or without nuts, that is the question. Upon having opposed a bill similar to this one a few years ago has shown what leaving the nuts on those critters have led to. Personally, if I had any input at all on this issue, I'd say its a great idea. I would also have to think about many upset males that will have a decreased testosterone level. It can calm a dog down, why not another dog?

  10. i feel that the punishment is adequate for the crime committed. if they don't want their nuts to be castrated then they shouldn't have done the crime.

  11. I personally think any punishment like this is the right answer. We live in a country where we are supposedly "civilized", but there is nothing civilized about this. I'm not saying that what they did is right, I'm just saying that torture has and will never work.

  12. In some cases the offenders are the ones requesting castration - many who have been castrated continue to recidivate; which only proves to me sex offenders have root that begins with a mental issue. Sometimes what we call punishment is not for rehabilation or an actual punishment - it is done to protect society from the individual.

  13. I agree with this idea because obviously we are not getting the message that sexual assult or violence is wrong. People keep committing these crimes over and over and i think something drastic needs to be done. Sometimes it takes something drastic in order for something or someone to make a change.

  14. o I agree that this is a great idea...punishment should be placed upon the offender in a way that violates them like that of the offended...justice should be served...I think there should be a warning of castration and then let it start being taken seriously on the offenders...they will get the message if their goods are taken away...it is sort of like touching a hot stove to get a cookie, once you tounch the stove and see it's hot, you more than likely want touch it again to get burned...

  15. Its pretty drastic, but maybe a good idea in some cases but not all. We have the death penalty in Tx but people still continue to commit horrific crimes and it hasn't stopped people from committing the same crimes. So I don't really think castration would stop these sex offenders, they are still going to try and get away with it even though they could loose a body part.

  16. They really do have to look into their research in order to do this. Although it sounds like a "cruel and unusual punishment," it might be a good idea to use as a last resource. And "good idea" is actually relative. I agree with jamf2a, it sounds like is going to work better as a way to protect society from such individuals rather than as a punishment or for rehabilitation purposes.

  17. I feel like this is a good way to help stop the sex offenders. if they are not going to stop then this punishment sure as hell will help.i dont see how people would feel this is to much of a punishment when in reality what the sex offenders are doing is much worse.

  18. i feel like this is a good way to stop the actual act of the offense but it would not stop the desires of the offender nor would it teach them that they are sick and need certain attentions to help them with their illness.

  19. WOW...the lengths that are goverment is willing to take..... i hate that are world has sexual predetors.. I Do....but forever taking away their reproductive organs is a little extrem. and i can see why the guys would object.... what really got me was that TEXAS allows for physical castration... i had no idea that we were allowed to do this....sexual predetors for the most part are sick mentally and should go to a mental treatment facility.... even as a last ditch effort castration should never even be considered.... its just so inhumane... people get angry when people castrate animals so why is it ok to castrate humans? i don't support this at all....

  20. I think this would be a good idea. These predators are taking something away from the innocent victims so I think it is fair to take something away from them as well. I think it would show a slight decrease in the # of predators that committ this crime.

  21. There is no way this will ever pass. Way too cruel. We cannot just lower the justice system to a form of revenge and physically scar the accused. An eye for an eye has got us nowhere in the past.

  22. This seems a like just a little to much. I understand that those parts are pretty much their weapons but I believe they should be put in some kind of hospital before something like that is done to them.

  24. Texas has the right to castrate physically?? WOW I didn't know this at all. How come I have never heard about this? Does Texas do this occasionally? But the main point here being about VA getting this passed. It said that a proposal of similar things was put through 4 years ago and denied. So it has already been looked at and denied, why would they try again? Sex offenders are mentally ill and need therapy but if they are repeat offenders they should consider physical castration in some way. I know it's not right but this crime should be decreased somehow. but then you wonder what happens if you castrate them and they find another way to do bad things. They could take part in child pornography or some other things. It could stop a sex offender or make them more determined and aggressive. Its a law that should be explored and tested on but not something that could stay permanent,
