New President of Kenya 2013 - Wanted by ICC!

Well looks as though Uhuru Kenyatta took the presidential election in Kenya. Amazing that one can rise to power and still be wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of crime against humanity dating back to 2007. I wonder what Mungiki gangsters thing about the turn out?

  1. When I was reading that the Kenya Supreme Court upheld the election I laughed to myself thinking what court? Where is this court in the everyday lives of the Kenyan people? The sad thing in this election is that either candidate wouldn’t really be ideal leaders for Kenya. It’s like trying to vote for the lesser of the evils. I am shocked that riots didn’t break out in the slums. Is this the calm before the storm?

  2. I just don’t understand the ways of Kenya. A person like, Uhuru Kenyatta, who is facing trial at the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity over post-election violence five year ago, and this is who you wanted to protect you. Statements like “no repeat of the bloodshed that followed the late 2007 election will occur,” what a joke. I guess only time will tell the fate of this country and how corrupt it really is. All I can say right now is evil, evil and pure evil with all the ties Kenyatta has I would not be surprise to see the death rates increase.

  3. This is very unusual situation when your country's president is wanted by international criminal court for crimes against humanity. I dont understand how did people could vote for him and the other candidate isnt also good. Its hard to tell what direction the Kenyan government is going to be. I think that there is going to be a lot of interesting events coming up in Kenya lets hope that there isnt going to be that much violence there as in recent past.

  4. This country is more than corrupt. In America, our nation's presidents must have a prestine background, much less be convicted of any crime during presidency. Kenyan's must be brainwashed or uneducated to want Uhuru Kenyatta to be their president to help fight for their protection. Must they be slapped in the face with these facts in the future. Kenyans should take a stand now, while there is still a chance. If they do not want their entire country corrupt, because it is going to go downhill fast. - Daniella Romero

  5. The way that the elections and the International Criminal Court are run in Kenya is surprising to me. I remember Dr. G mentioning in class that the ICC can have a case against a person, but that it is not their job to go and get that person. That is so different from how things are done in the United States. There is no way that a person that is wanted would or could run for President. I seen an article that said the New President of Kenya has agreed to cooperate with the ICC on charges of crime against humanity. I think that he believes that since he has won the election to become President that he will bot be found guilty. What if he is found guilty what will happen, because I doubt it works it would here in the United States if the President could not longer be President.

  6. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that election was not a close call. He was a legacy! His father was the founder of the free republic of Kenya! He was going to win regardless of his allegations or whatever else was dug up from the past and thrown at him. Do I believe he had anything to do with funding a militia for the ethnic riots, ABSOLUTELY. He being younger then, I doubt he was thinking about the future. He was probably talked into running for president by his father. Kenya is so used to crime, they are not fazed by his criminal allegations. He plans on working with the ICC to clear his name and allegations. What does it matter anyway? His allegations are not going to change anything.

  7. This problem seems a little too convenient if you ask me, but it also seems convenient that a country would nominate a man that would commit crimes against people. How were these elections conducted, and how did people know who the candidates were. To my knowledge Kenya is not a wealthy country, so I wonder how people knew how to work the computers, or how people without televisions or access to computers were able to know whom the candidates were. Hopefully everything works out for the best for the people of Kenya and they best person wins the presidency. Further research needs to be conducted into how people feel about the government, or what chances they feel need to occur. I am thankful for our democratic policy of voting, even though there are flaws, it is definitely the best in the world.

  8. Is this going to bring even more violence to Kenya? I wonder who made this decision, I find it hard to believe that a society where violence is prevalent is going to choose this man to guide them in the right direction. He is wanted for crimes against humanity, that doesn't sound like a convincing president to me. This is just sad, wrong, and corrupt. He claims to be innocent, but it has not been proven yet I believe weather he is or not. I hope that the people of Kenya, and that Uhuru doesn't cause any harm to the people. We will see as time passes.

    1. Replying to Lauri, that was what the entire uproar was about. The way he was elected. From what we were reading there was a lot of intimidation used to get him elected. The citizens in Kenya don't actually have a democracy voting system that is fair and SAFE. You have to be mindful of this when you see these countries (all 200 plus) electing new "leaders" or "Presidents".

  9. Kenyatta had this election in the bag from the get go and Kenya will never have fair elections with people like this running the country. That would be like the United States electing a prisoner straight of prison as the next president. The only difference being that Kenyatta is a free man. Every one there knows of his past but they aren't in a position to do anything about it.

  10. The latest on this case was this past March some proof has surfaced to the ICC that meetings at Kenya’s equivalent of the White House late in 2007 and early in 2008, Uhuru Kenyatta, now the president, helped plan the violence that swept the country after its disputed elections. He even transferred millions of dollars to buy weapons. Two men who claimed to be at the meetings told prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in statements that formed the meat of the court’s charges against Mr. Kenyatta for crimes against humanity. The problem with these and many other witnesses is they say they lied, so they will not testify. Some have reportedly disappeared. The ICC’s chief prosecutor says this is because of an "unprecedented intimidation” of witnesses in the Kenyatta case, and of what she claims are bribes and threats not to testify. The loss of the testimony of those two men, significantly increases the likelihood that the Kenyatta case may soon collapse. My hope is that this man will be brought to the ICC and that the case will proceed. This man is responsible for millions of peoples deaths not to mention many other illegal activities I am sure that the ICC can find some other way to pursue its case.
