David Berkowitz..."Take the Glory out of Guns"???? How Ironic!

Serial killer, "Son of Sam" says, "Take the Glory out of Guns"? How ironic!!! What do you think about what David Berkowitz has to say about guns since he used a gun to commit murder back in the 70s?

  1. I love when criminals have epiphanies while in jail!! Mr. Berkowitz thinks that guns are glorified because....? It is my opinion that he views them as glorious because he claimed shooting people caused "sexual arousal". Most people don't view guns used to kill people as glorified! Mr. Berkowitz was crazy when he went in and I have no doubt that he is still is crazy. People tend to want to blame the guns rather than the individual who used the gun. Considering that Mr. Berkowitz stabbed two people (one unconfirmed) does he think that knives are glorified as well???

  2. I think he is being an absolute hypocrite by saying that we should not have guns and that guns are glorified considering he committed his murders using a gun. People have a right to feel safe in their homes and if owning a gun ensures their security and safety then they have a right to have that. You can't ban whatever weapon is used to kill people just because of glorification of weapons. Regardless if they ban guns or not people are still going to be killed by other means. People will resort to other methods of violence and the cycle will continue. Guns are not the problem and banning them won't help either. In fact, it might make things worse since owning a weapon will be something illegal and somewhat of a temptation.

  3. I think he is being extremely hypocritical. I don't understand why he would have that mindset, after he is a well known serial killer. That seems a bit odd doesn't it? I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe, he has turned a new leaf, and has come to terms with all the evil cruelty he carried out back in the 70s. Are we taking his statement out of context possibly? Take the Glory out of guns to me seems like he is saying we need to have more gun control. Maybe he is saying we should kill people with no remorse. Who really knows what this man is truly thinking. He obviously has mental issues. Why is there even an article about this foolishness? I feel like he does not have a right to the saying that, but I guess he would be a good advocate for gun control. What do you think?

  4. Most people in prison go through phases of "clarity" and most become "born again". I'm not saying that it NEVER happens but come on, they are not in there for simple crimes and most are recidivates. So now onto how I can relate this to research... IF by some chance you could get IRB approval get a survey on aspects such as gun control questions, then have at least 5 questions that tie in the sexuality of that person related to the crimes committed. I checked to see if such studies have been conducted. I didn't located anything remotely related to guns, crime, and sexuality. Just more room for research in the vast world of criminal justice.

  5. The son of Sam got convicted for six murders, his parole hearing was denied twice because as he stated he don't want to come out because he believes that he should spend all his life in prison for what he did. I believe that the reformation in the prisons occur but with him i dont think so, he is mentally sick that is for sure. I think that banning guns wont bring any change, criminals would still get guns, and the regular citizens wont be able to protect themselves from people like him.

  6. I agree with DSudds when they stated that the son of Sam is being “extremely hypocritical” Although we never know, this man might have remorse for what he has done, and he could be thinking that if the message is being relayed by a convicted serial killer, then more people might believe that, the reason there are so many gun related crimes, is because guns are glorified and there needs to be more gun control laws. In my opinion, I think that this is being used a tactic to have his 10 minutes of fame, and the media should not have even entertained this man.

  7. I personally think Berkowitz is using this issue in order to bring himself back into the spotlight. I do not think he is truly sincere about his response to the removal of guns or any legislation that involves limiting the use of guns. Relating this article to research methods entails performing a research study on serial killers. My research question would ask, are serial killers able to become rehabilitated to such an extent that releasing them back into society poses no threat? I am unaware of any known serial killers being allowed back into the community, but I wonder if this is even possible. I would evaluate the rehabilitation methods utilized in our prison systems, and determine their success rates via surveys given to criminals who have been enrolled in these programs. I would then perform a survey for serial killers, and try to identify commonalities and gear rehabilitation programs to help with these identifiers. Based on these surveys and past research efforts maybe conclusions and further rehabilitation programs can arise from this study.

  8. Take the Glory out of Guns is easy for a man who is serving 25-years to life in prison for killing six people. It good to see that a man in prison has find God but what makes him think the younger generation will even listen to him about the subject of guns. Everyone has their right to their own opinion on any subject under the 1st Amendment. I guest a man who is locked down wants to be back in the public eye in some manner. What he fail to understand most people don’t glorify guns. David feels by committing on gun control and giving advice to the youth may help him with an early release anything is possible.

  9. Maybe I am naive or too forgiving, but there are many convicted prisoners who claim to be born again Christians, and claim that they have changed their ways. Is it possible? I believe so, "Son of Sam" Berkowits murdered six people because an animal supposedly told him to, that is just bizarre but nothing new. He states that he does not want to go on parole because that would just cause more pain to the victims families. Although he might be changed 100%, I believe that he knows what he did and understands that it was not right. A research that could be done is one where convicted prisoners who are released are looked at closely. what is their behavior after the prison life? Do they still claim to be born again Christians after, or do they fall back into the same patterns of behavior they had before prison. If so, what programs should be used to educate prisoners.

  10. The story of David Berkowitz is like many other gun related stories. He becomes imprisoned for murdering individuals because a demon dog told him to. He is now doing the same thing our government does every time there is a shooting occurrence. He is blaming the gun for harming and killing these individuals. A gun cannot go off by itself; someone has to pull the trigger. Just like in his case, many of these individuals are crazy and need serious professional help. A man such as Berkowitz has no place commenting on the gun issues. He is a cold-blooded killer and deserves to be in prison and punished for the crimes he committed.

  11. I'm guessing “Son of Sam” found out that guns weren’t the answer in prison. Granted he committed crime with a gun but I don’t think that makes his point invalid. Actually since he committed murder with a gun don’t you think his point should be at least considered? He knows first-hand the damage a gun can do and how it can change your life. Guns are not the problem. Guns alone don’t kill people it’s the people behind the gun that kill people. I’m neither for nor against guns but that’s a fact. We was a nation just have to be more careful with the persons hand we put the gun in or allow the gun to be bought.

  12. I do not understand how Berkowitz used a gun on 13 people, killing 6 and shooting the other 7, and then talks about how guns are bad and that we should not use them. I know he said he is basically a new man and is now a born-again Christian, but honestly how can you believe this man. This is the same man who "later claimed his neighbor's dog ordered him to carry out the murders". You cannot believe or trust this guy. He should not be giving advice to young people about guns since he used them on people. What this guy is not thinking about is how to use a gun. It is okay to use a gun if you know how to use one and you do not kill people. Not everyone is a killer. Some people can actually use a gun without purposely killing someone...it is called being in your right mind, not psycho. I am smart enough not to listen to my neighbor’s dog in committing murders. I am glad this guy is not promoting young people to kill, but I do not like the fact that he is saying guns are bad. Guns are not bad. The only thing wrong is psycho who uses them.

  13. This guy is crazy and irony is his middle name. How do you end up in prison for killing people with a gun because a dog told him to, and then talking about taking the glory out of guns. It is to my belief that Mr. Berkowitz is bored in his life of imprisonment and is seeking out attention. Born again Christian? Yeah right, this pattern is pretty prevalent amongst prisoners who are incarcerated for a number of years. "Son of Sam" needs to get over himself and quit trying to seek attention with his ironic and satire ways.

  14. First of all, what the hell is the glory behind guns? The only people who glorify guns are the people who have no damn right to be using them in the first place. This guy is an idiot and a sociopath. The irony behind a serial killer who killed people by using guns coming out and saying we should take the glory out of guns is hilarious. I'm sure that gun control activist are eating this up, saying that if a serial killer (who used guns) can be "born again" and realize that using guns are "wrong" that something must be really wrong with having guns. But they couldn't be further from the truth... I've said this before on a post but it applies again here, bad people will find weapons no matter what, if they want to commit a crimes THEY WILL. If we take guns away from good people who use them for protection for themselves and others, we will have a serious problem. We shouldn't take the glory out of guns, but we should take the glory out of giving idiots like Berkowitz the time of day when they come out with comments like this. End of story.

  15. It's funny to hear someone who used guns to kill people is now saying that we should take the glory out of guns. This is definitely just to bring up his name and get some sort of attention. I don't know if he's trying to be sarcastic but it's insane what he is trying to say. People have guns to protect themselves but that doesn't mean they are glorifying them. Why are they even allowing this guy to come up with this stuff and then publicizing it like he is important or that his opinion is valued.
