  1. To call Mr. Loor’s story a miracle is an understatement! The knife pierced Mr. Loor’s skull extremely close to an artery that could have killed him. I am amazed to know that Mr. Loor will survive this attack. I am also pleased to know that he is expecting to make a complete and speedy recovery. His emergency medical technician skills were invaluable. As for the attacker, Terrence Hale has been charged with attempted aggravated murder and placed under psychiatric watch. Mr. Hale has a history of mental illness and was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. At the time of this attack, Mr. Hale was off of his medications. Further, Mr. Hale carries a prior criminal record.

This video exemplifies the dangers of police work and why I appreciate the work they do in serving the public. Officers work the streets day in and day out to keep others safe, absent from their own families. They are willing to take bullets for the public and many officers have been killed in the line of duty. Disappointingly, I do not believe that the general public respect police officers enough. Too often, their hard work goes unnoticed. Sadly, police officers are more likely to die from self-inflicted causes than in the line of duty. They need to be thanked periodically to realize that life is not just one big felony since human depravity is what they are exposed to constantly.

Exploring Criminal Justice points out policing is among one of the most stressful occupations. Police handle a unique set of challenges daily including dealing with the emotionally disturbed such as Mr. Loor did. Intense stress affects an individual’s physical health and mental well being. The number one cause of police stress specifically mentioned in Exploring Criminal Justice occurs upon handling child abuse cases. A paralegal told me that she was unable to separate work from home because of all of the negative aspects of CPS cases that she assisted with. Legal professionals are often required to detach themselves from situations, but at the end of the day we are all human and have our own emotions and thoughts which we cannot turn off easily. This stress can lead to emotional, psychological, and physical problems such as suicide, divorce, alcoholism, and substance abuse.

One of our past neighbors, Ms. Shonda Mack Tella, was a police officer for the Arlington Police Department. She served the police force with honor and dignity. I remember one day a car was speeding through the residential parking lot and without her uniform in ordinary clothes as a citizen, she ran into the middle of the street without fear of getting hit and raised her hand up and whistled loudly to slow down the car. I always had the utmost respect for her. Ms. Shonda Mack Tella is no longer with us due to an illness; but she will never be forgotten. To protect and serve at all costs is fitting for her and many other police officers. There are many reasons to be proud of our law enforcement for protecting us daily and their work should not go unnoticed.

  2. I've always thought how hard it is to be a spouse of a member of the law enforcement. Every day they put themselves in harm's way. Every day, a little voice might tell you, this just MIGHT be the last time you see them. This just proves how short life really is and how valuable loved ones are in your life.

Somebody was watching over Officer Loor and giving him the strength and courage to continue to live!

    Lastly, can we say "OUCH"?!

  3. When you hear stories like “NYPD Officer Called A Miracle After Surviving Knife To The Head” you wonder who’s the real victim in this story! I’m not making light of the duties of police officers whom put their lives on the line to save others, or the fact they deal with emotionally disturbed person like Terrence Hale. They should be commended for the worked they do like teachers but officers are one of the lowest paid position. The medical profession has attempted to medicalize many forms of deviance (crime) stating that it represents mental illnesses. In Mr. Hale this is true he was off his medication when officer Loor was attacked. My question was Mr. Hale off his medication due to his own doing or cause the government has cut funding to programs that help people like Mr. Hale. It’s is a miracle and a blessing that office Loor survive the knife attack.

  4. Wow!
I got Goosebumps hearing this. I can’t imagine what his wife must of felt when she saw the police car coming to her house.
Officer Loor had an angel watching over him that day, no doubt about that. I really hope that CRAZY gets to do some time in prison. This story clearly shows how hard and dangerous the job of a police officer is. I am glad that he will be able to help raise new baby.

  5. This story proves that domestic calls can be the most dangerous for the responding officers. I've been told by other officers that there is really no telling what will happen at a domestic disturbance call. God Bless Officer Loor and his family. I can't imagine all of the stress that his wife has endured, especially being pregnant! This man really had the Lord looking out for him that day. It is amazing that he survived that type of trauma and is expected to have a full and speedy recovery!

  6. I find the stabbing event amazing because officer Loor survived the stab to his head. Also, He removed the knife himself, which makes the event even more incredible. I can’t believe that officer Loor was an inch away from being speech impaired. If the man who stabbed him would have stabbed him somewhere else in his head, Loor could have died or been speech impaired. If he would have died, he would have missed out on the birth of his second child in July. Police officers put their lives in danger every day to protect people here in the United States. I believe many people often take law enforcement for granted or blames officers for giving them a ticket. If someone is speeding in a school zone and receive a ticket, who do you think many people blame first? Speeding in a school zone can be very dangerous. Loor is very lucky that he is alive, and I believe many areas of the United States are safe because of the work of Police. My point of my comment is to say that police officers do not receive as much credit as they deserve.

  7. Mr. Loor’s story is a miracle surviving a Knife To The Head” This story does proves that domestic calls are the most dangerous for the responding officers. After surviving knife to the had and recovering from it I would understand if Mr. Loor was to retired. many people often take law enforcement for granted or blames officers for giving them a ticket. This first responders also have families that they have to get back to. This video exemplifies the dangers of police work and why I appreciate the work they do in serving the public. Officers work the streets day in and day out to keep others safe, absent from their own families. U just have to feel for his wife and there kids also i hope the man how did this speed a long time in jail...

  8. This story is ridiculous. My first thought after watching this video, aside from holy sh**, was wondering why the hell this guy with “a history of mental disorders,” is just roaming the streets with a shank. Don’t get me wrong, it is truly sad that this officer was attacked, and his family was put in that position, but I can help but feel sad, not specifically for the guy that did the stabbing, but for the other people out there who suffer from mental disorders that could potentially wind up harming themselves or others. Our correctional facilities and programs have failed us miserably. I’m well aware that it’s not only the correctional facilities or rehab centers or medical facilities that have to do something about this problem, but I think that is where we should probably start fixing the problem. If a person has a history of mental disorders, and violent episodes, there should be a place for them to seek assistance or observation, in the least. I don’t excuse people for committing crimes solely because they have mental disorders, but I have to say that it’s hard to blame them and only them. I definitely do not have the answer to solving the problem, but hopefully by working together we will be able to figure out a way to not only protect ourselves from those with mental disorders that could cause violent episodes, while still caring for and protecting those with the disorders.

  9. I think one thing this story shows is the amount of bravery it takes to be a police officer. I mean I agree with Selemani, a lot of us complain and constantly speak in a derogatory manner of our police officers. I understand that there are crooked cops out there, but there are also men and women that leave their families and place themselves in harms way for us. It's ironic to me how we praise the troops and give them the respect and prayers the need and deserve, but to the men and women that serve us everyday, we show nothing short of hatred

  11. Police officers get no credit for all the brave that they actually do they put their lives in danger every day to protect ungrateful people in America. I know for a fact I took law enforcement for granted yea I was the kid that hated officers felt like they were just around to ruin your good time before taking this course but now I realize that officers do so much for your everyday life that it’s crazy. But this man is very lucky to even be able to tell this story again. God was really working with this man that day he needs to be saying a special prayer every day because this could have been so much worse. Police officers do not receive any credit they deserve. And as citizens we need to work to change that.
