Presentation on Polish Hooligan Gangsters

  1. Wow, I can't wrap my brain around all this hate. Is it that I'm naive or that my parents did a pretty good job raising me? The answer could be both.

So, their unemployment rate is high. Beating the crap out of people won't get you a job.

Do any of them actually go to a sporting event to, let's say, enjoy the event? Of course there are opposing sides, that's the point of teams!

I also don't understand how these gangs idolize the men that wanted to remove their entire existence from the planet.

What is the real reason why these hooligans are so violent and racist? They don't know either! I believe one man said "because....just because".

I pity the poor people that are stuck in the middle of all of this violence and hatred. They don't have the greatest of resources to help them stop the violence. These gangs most assuredly take advantage of the lack of police force.

I can continue to watch these videos, but there is absolutely no way that I will understand what their point is to continue this violence. I don't mean just the Polish Hooligans, I mean all gangs, all hate mongers, racists, homophobes, etc. I just don't get it.

    1. Hi Leanne, I agree! As I watched the video I wonder why do they really attend these games? Are we really to believe they love their teams so much they can't help themselves in becoming violent? I'm a big fan of alot of different sports but in no way could I imagine beating up someone just because of a game. And I also don't get all of their hate. Maybe it does go back in history but still, their hate is so much. I also feel sorry for those just wanting to watch a game but get caught up in all of the violence. So sad.

  2. Steph, I might beat someone up for the RANGERS! =) I’m jk! But seriously I agree with both you and Leanne. There is no sport event in this world worth me jeopardizing for one my liberty and two my life. I guess the question of WHY IN THE WORLD ARE THESE PEOPLE STILL ATTENDING THESE GAMES? Will remain a mystery and even if they were to come up with an answer, it would probably be something as stupid as their actions.

    1. Barbie if we were both at the Rangers vs. Yankees game, do you think there would have been a brawl? Probably. You are right though, there shouldn't be any reason, especially over sports, for people to get into violent altercations like that. My personal belief is that the reason why they still attend these sporting events is because in the end, these people have nothing else but there pride and there love of the game.

  4. Team rivalries are a past time every country is acquainted with. Many times a person has been severely injured as a result. Whether it is the LA Dodgers versus the San Francisco Giants or the Oakland Raiders rivaling the San Francisco 49ers, we are aware of the friction between the two sports teams. Usually an innocent person is randomly targeted and overpowered by the opponent in numbers rendering them outmatched in a fight. Bryan Stow for example, a paramedic that was beaten into a coma while unlocking his car as he was leaving a Dodgers/Giants game may never wake up because of how bad he was injured. Now, I totally think the Polish have gotten out of hand and gone a little crazy. But, in their defense – had Bryan Stow been with a Giants posse, he might still be awake today. A paramedic goes down and it makes the news here, whereas hundreds are killed or wounded from the exact same thing in Poland and people still turn their backs.

  6. It is funny to think that people go to this extent for team rivalries. I understand you may have passion for the sport you watch and the team you support but this is just plain stupid. I am a big dodger fan and when i had found out they a fan had died at the game because he was going for the other team. I was pretty embarrassed. But this is a regular occurrence at these matches. What really gets me upset is why have they not taken drastic measures with security. They know there is a good chance of something braking out so in order to protect fans who are not involved and the players on the field so why not prepare for it. I just do not get how they can just act like its okay.

  7. The documentary on the polish hooligans was a bit disturbing. I agree with Leanne when she stated “why these gangs idolize a man who wanted to wipe out their existence”. I understand that most of these gang members live in poverty, are unemployed, and some are even homeless. But, I don’t see how being destructive and wanting to fight at sporting events helps you get a job, a home, or even put money in your pocket. In my opinion, it is plain to see that these hooligans really are ignorant to what they are fighting for, because when Ross Kemp asked them to explain why they feel the need to be violent, the only answer they were able to provide is that it was a tradition. Personally I would not want to follow any traditions, were I end up in jail or killed.

  8. To all the before bloggers you have justifiable points. In most cases people who view the documentary see people going to the extreme for team rivalries or that some of the team follow the teachings of a mad man (Hitler). In the Ross Kemp video he asks the question to some polish hooligans why all the violence, the only answer was it a tradition. In my opinion there an underline reason for the need for hate and anger. When people are oppressed they lash out in the only method they know, because when a person is hopeless they feel there nothing to lose or to live for even if they have a family that loves them. Members of the hooligans are living in poverty, unemployed, and even homeless. Most people don’t understand about living in poverty, being unemployed, or homeless. It’s like a plague; it doesn’t just destroy one’s body but the mind also. The hooligans are without hope because there seems to be no possibility of comfort or success. In some case they are playing out self-fulfilling prophecies were they learn false assumption as children (like being told the will not amount to nothing or you going to be like your father or brothers a hooligans) over time it becomes true. As Americans living in the US we have hope to better our lives because our society is based on social classes were a person can move up and down the social ladder. But that’s not to say that anyone of us can’t be in the same boat as the hooligans someday.

  9. The reason is simple, for why they attend these sporting events, this is there outlet for their aggression and hostilities imparted by their parents, and they will pass the tradition to their children. The whole video had an uneasy tone as well as grey and dark tones of color. While Ross was visiting inside the dwelling of the interviewed family, he showed their home to be decorated with the bare essentials, no extras, and in a space which gave a feeling of extreme confinement. The picture painted was that of a BLEEK existence for the people of Poland. I am looking forward to hearing the stories Greg brings back from his trip this summer. Poland and the Ukraine are co-hosting the UEFA European Football Championship, beginning in June of this summer , maybe he will attend a match.

  10. So I can admit that I have seen some vicious fan violence in my day before I’ve ever learned about the Polish Hooligans. The severity may not have been on the Hooligans level, however violence still has somewhat of a manifestation within our cultures sporting events. Their were some of course scene in professional sporting events but majority of them that I’ve seen came from high school, middle school, and even pee wee sporting events where the crowds are composed of primarily parents. Try YouTube if you don't believe me and it will make for another interesting discovery but YES parents are engaging in physical altercations while "little jimmy" and "baby Jane" are out playing their hearts out performing in what ever sport they participate. How do you respond to that? Where is their rage and anger conceived? Don't they know the CHILDREN ARE WATCHING?!? AS far as the Hooligans go, that to me is like pure child’s play and ignorance. I look at these guys and respond that it’s a bunch kids looking for excitement and adrenaline because they have nothing better to do with their lives. These guys have no expectation for themselves or of themselves, and the mindset that they are operating on is a very childish one. To backdoor what Scubadee was saying in his comment, one will never fully grasp or comprehend why so much anger and animosity is within people to drive them to limits of pure violence for sport or criminality at all. If you've never been in a persons shoe and walked the life of a poor man without a job or home then you couldn't possible understand the thoughts that travel through his mind. There must be some sort of mental illness going on for a person to idolize another person who wanted them dead. Idle time is the devil’s time. What do you expect if you have a group of young adults living in poverty without expectation? Generational curses! Historical violence!

  11. This is ridiculous. I do not get it. What about those who actually want to enjoy a live game, not confined to the safety of their own homes? I feel for those people, as well as the innocent bystanders. This right here is absolutely too much, where are the officials and why are more forces being deployed to handle issues like this? If Polish officials really wanted to smash this problem, I am pretty sure they could with whatever force they have available.

An idol mind is a devil's workshop. With no proper guidance, education or employment, behavior like this is to be expected. But why? This makes no sense. Just because you do not like the opposing team?

  12. To understand a soccer Hooligan in genral you must frist know what soccer means to most around the world besides the united states .In euro and south america soccer is god ,there team is there life there tribe that conects them too there homeland its like a war .they will die for there team . After viewing the the presentation and wacthing the youtube videos, the view i got was that these hooligans or gang bangers are being breed to feel this hate it has to start some where, they feed to love and do anything for there team .there fathers and grandfathers were hooligans ,and also this gangsters are not your tyipcal street gangs like we have in other parts of the world there sole goal is not make money to fight for there team .

  13. How sad, how tragic, how disturbing, how disgusting. What's really happening here? Is unemployment causing hooliganism or is hooliganism causing unemployment? Who in their right minds would want to hire any of these guys? I used to believe that any people deserved the right to freedom and democracy, but after the Iraq war, I'm not so sure. It appears to me that only dictators like Saddam Hussein and Communist regimes such as the old Soviet Union can keep people in some areas of the world in check and in control. It's amazing how a little mass murder and torture by the state can knock the fun out of rioting and mayhem. Though I don't really know the situation in Poland other than the high unemployment rate, I can tell you that most of the hooligans looked to be well-fed and clothed and to be really enjoying the destruction they were inflicting. I don't understand the message, if any, in burning down a soccer stadium. Desperate times may lead to desperate measures, but this seems to be totally the wrong way to receive any sympathy from the public or the Polish government. How many stadiums were burned down during our Great Depression of the 1930s? Today, violence is cool. Well, not to me!

  14. I was born in Poland and lived there for abound 12 years before immigrating to Chicago, and hooliganism had always been a problem there. To understand it better soccer is a national sport of Poland and through out the history hooligans been a patriots and also they brought shame to Polish people. Nobody really knows but through out the communist Poland lot of things were illegal to do and there was a limit of free speech. The only "free speech" zones where people could express their views about the communist government were soccer stadiums, because there were more people then communist authorities and it was easier to spread the word between soccer fans. Now a days Polish hooligans are more ruthless then any other soccer fans in the world, the first soccer game i attended was when i was 6 years old with my dad and my uncle. I never seen that much hate in my life. In the derby game where two teams from the same city play violence is the worst. I remember as a kid one game, whenever the away fans came in to the stadium (in Europe on soccer stadiums there are separate sections for away fans usually looking like cages) the whole sector of home hooligans (hooligans seat separate from regular people that actually watch the game )started to burn their rivals club colors like scarfs and shirts and that provoked a big fight on the stadium, and also the city in this day is very dangerous. The most awkward thing the same hooligans that fight each other weekly on the soccer stadiums but whenever there is a national team game there is a peace going on. Personally i dont support them but a lot of young people now in poland are trying to be just like the old guys and that creates the young generation growing bigger, what would happen in Poland whenever those hooligans are going to get access to guns and fire arms ?

  15. As a soccer player and a lover of the sport, you never want to see anyone hurt but the fans aren't the ones that the on hand medical staff are employed for. As one of the world's most played sport, soccer fans are everywhere and if every fan were that passionate for their team, we'd have a bigger problem on our hand.
