How a small object can trick the mind of a man..making men kill or cut off hands of their own kind in order to smuggle and get paid or be bought. and the sad thing is these companies such as De Beer dont protect them, they dont promise them anything in return to keep them alive or going to continue business. so why kill or cut body parts off of people because they dont want to cooperate for such short term benefits?! if they dont get it with the first source they will find another source, it makes no sense, and these companies that go in and smuggle these diamonds and bring them back to the states and turn around and sell for six figures are insane? they got it for FREE or they only paid for shipping and handling if that. Consumers need to stop buying these products so that companies arent giving business, it's bad enough that superstars are buying them and using them as decors for their drinks and throwing them around, spending millions on them but cant afford to pay for lesser value merchandise. These diamond dealers that are killing for blood diamonds need to be put behind bars for having others killed in foreign countries, smuggle the diamonds, and then ripping customers off with their outrageous sales prices. Allowing them to be free is allowing them to kill and hurt others for free and that's not fair nor is it right. If customers want diamonds, they need to go out of their way to get their own diamonds, bring it into the states or countries, find a jeweler and have their piece customized so that not only is it speacial but it's unique and affordable to pay the jeweler.
First I must say when De Beers made that saying, "A diamond is forever", it can make perfect sense. Look at all the pain that was caused in the African countries. Children being kidnapped and turned into killers, people having their hands cut off. Hazardize working conditions, torture and maiming of workers. These effects will remain with for the rest of their lives. Families connected to them will also be affect leading to basically... forever. One may wonder how long were the diamond industry aware of the origin of the supply of diamonds. Why wait till it became public knowledge to take action? Was it because of the "low cost"? Sometimes one could wonder how far will a person greed would take them or how far will a person go just to make a buck. To think people have killed and other die to get their hands on a item so small and others who would pay millions of dollars.
This really puts it into perspective how something that we cherish and adore over here, is really causing alot of pain and killing in other countries. De Beer's ads make it look as if getting a diamond is the best thing in the world that could happen to you. However everday people are being killed by the diamond war that is going on. Now I am not saying I would never have a diamond myself. It is just a sad situation that we have going on today. Whenever I hear about this subject the movie "Blood Diamond" comes into my head. Now im sure that it is fabricated alot but still gives you the basic jist of how things are.
I agree with all of these comments. It is sad what De Beers is doing with all of these diamonds and how they are promoting them and there are people getting there arms cut off for the diamonds. Also, De Beers could try and do something to help the people out. Next, it is also sad how they go to all of the little villages and kill countless women and children if they do not join them to help out with the diamonds. They take little children and give them guns to get the older men to help find the diamonds. For instance, the movie "Blood Diamond" is a perfect example of what De Beers is doing. I don't understand why people value diamonds so much. I guess people these days do not care how it is made or how they get it as long as they can make a quick buck.
I find it incredible that people can still exploit others in today's society. I understand the value and the demand for diamonds but is this slavery really required? These companies appeal to love and passion in their commercials but they are hypocrites since they're heartless and lack any compassion of their workers. It is those workers whom maintain the diamond industry and yet they are treated terribly. Killing, beating, torturing and complete exploitation to save money. If only a diamond was truly a symbol of love.
Its amazing how a simple worthless stone can cause so much pain and suffering. Most of the people who buy diamonds have no clue where the diamond actually came from. These people are just so excited to see a diamond ring or necklace that they dont care about the regards of the people who dug the rock up. De Beers controls the diamond industry and has an unlimited number of diamonds saved. People shouldnt have to die over a rock thats found in the dirt. Why is a diamond so important? If the diamond is bigger do I love the person more?
Personally i believe diamonds are overrated. There are millions of diamonds in the world but yet these millionaires hold them and only sell a few at a time so the cost becomes much more. So now that they have made diamonds appear that there value is much higher you have places spilling blood to get them. So instead of helping our world get better these diamond companies are causing war and fights. Instead of diamonds causing love they cause blood fueds, wars, children are raised to kill, guns are being bought etc... Diamonds are made to look like these beautiful pieces of rock but people do not see what they really do to the world.
What do you think it would take to change the mindset of the American people, first, to realizing they are paying an exurbanite sum for rocks controlled by elite terrorists? The actions to obtain and control the rocks of the earth called diamonds are no different from those who are trying to reap and hold hostage the other minerals and rocks of the earth. The sheer brutality and the length of time this has remained the practice without bringing civil outrage is a mystery. Have De Beers really accomplished the best ever marketing campaign? De Beers could be the master of capitalistic white collar crime. They control the diamond industry from the mines to the minds they have manipulated the shinny rock named diamond to be of such value people die to own these rocks. In the mines working conditions are insufferable at best if not deadly. To put yourself in the market for being a target of theft of murder for owning, selling or transporting diamonds, seems to be a risk which the masses do willingly. Strange behavior for people considered to so smart.
i dont want my affection for a person to be measured by the size of a shiny rock that a person in a 3rd world country on the other side of the world had to lose their hands because it may have fallen into their pocket or they may have taken it out of desperation for their family. maybe thats just me, i dont know. De-beers has done an amazing job planting that idea in the worlds head, not just the US
