  1. I am glad that gang members are being held accountable for all their criminal acts. In many instances, gang members are not found guilty, or their case not brought to trial due to lack of evidence or witness corporation. Hopefully with these new convictions, other members or soon to be members will take notice and second-guess their criminal actions in the future. The killing of those innocent people, who were thought to be gang members, shows the stupidity and lack of concern for others that the gang members possess. I am happy to see these gang members put away, but also makes me wonder if this is the best plan of action because once these members are in jail they are likely to recruit new members to the MS-13 gang. I understand that jail is the appropriate sentence especially for murder, but at the same time we are just allowing gang violence and recruitment to continue by putting these known gang members in prison. Something needs to be done about this continuing problem, it is like a revolving door because yes we did get gang members off the street, but at the same time how many gang members were recruited in jail who will eventually be free to roam the streets of America?

  2. I agree with Bailey on many points but am also glad that they were put away and held accountable for their actions. You don't see many stories about gang members being caught and put in jail. A lot of times it is because they are hard to catch and get concrete evidence on what happened. And witnesses are probably not going to come forward because the word will get out and the other gang members will probably end up killing him/her. On the down side, they do go to prison and recruit and team up with other MS 13 members and when they get out, more crimes will take place. I don't see them doing this but it is possible that some of them realize that being a gang member isn't the life for them and then they must go into hiding because once a member always a member. They can't get out of it. It's a sad life that has usually only one ending and that's death. :(

  3. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Many a gang member has joined solely out of desperation and need. It is sad to see the youth of America degraded to such horrific activity. The fact that some gangs are formulated out of need by no means excuses or absolves them of the terrible crimes they are committing. It does, however, shed light on the inefficiency of the criminal justice system. Although the sentencing for the crimes committed by these MS13 members is appropriate, like Bailey Clark said, they can continue recruitment while in prison. Also, the fact that they are in prison does not prevent crime from being committed by members who are not in prison. Instead of the criminal justice system so ardently seeking out gang members, they should put their resources to prevention. If the same time and effort was put to prevention, I am convinced that we could see a change. Intervention at an early age can help youth get on the right track and avoid the negative influences of gangs. Perhaps we can see reformed gang members working to get kids off the streets.

  4. how they can be looking for a new trial??????
thats very fear those gangs members are in jail for all those murders, what they can say? they already did it and nothing is going to change it they are guilty, they killed them. all this problem with the gangs is getting the youths to a completed different life, is like a religion for them, the are very loyal to it , and they would do anything for it, including murder someone, like those guys, one of them was found guilty because he killed some guy who did not pay his "tax". this problem is getting bigger and bigger, and till now the government haven't do anything to prevent it, i think one of the ways that could avoid some of this problems is, give some help to this guys, trying to show them a way to another life, life where they can gat a chance to grow as humans, and have family, because that what are they looking for in this kind of gangs, most of the time they join to them because they got nobody to support them and all that are they looking for is a life.
so maybe if the government would give some kind of hope to a better life, in the future instead of trying to kill someone, they may be thinking about be someone else one their life.

  5. Bailey really does make a great point, “how many gang members will be recruited in jail,” I had actually, never really thought about that. I am most certainly happy that these gang members have been caught and put in jail, however, a new kind of concern has entered my life and that is, when one goes in how many come out? Obviously, we all know that jail is no rehabilitation, and we all know that the environment isn’t perfectly controlled; therefore, it should make us bring up this question more often, and attempt to find a solution. We cannot continue to live knowing that our jails are over populated and that people like members of the MS-13 are recruiting others while they are in jail. Seriously, I don’t mean to sound cold-hearted, and I know the death penalty is a very controversial topic, but if we can’t find a permanent solution to fixing these youngsters and turning them into a part of society then, I see only one solution left. They are killing innocent people, minding their own business, going about their daily lives. And, to some extent I don’t like the death penalty just as much as the next girl, but seriously, what is a feasible solution? ☹

  6. A trial involving gang members, this is odd, isn’t it? Most of the gang members who get locked up are in prison for doing drugs, trafficking drugs and/or guns, or dealing drugs on the streets. We hardly read articles stating there is an actual trial going on involving gang members’ murders and conspiracy's to commit more murders. After watching the Al Capone documentaries we learned that gangsters don’t rat, even on another gang member. On the evening of February 14, 1929, after the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, a cop asked a dying gangster, who was shot by a member of his gang’s rivals, who shot him and he whispered “no one shot me, cop.” This is an example of how gangsters don’t want justice served by the law enforcement, they would rather take matters into their own hands and bring the perp to justice in a manner they deem necessary, this is why many gangster criminals aren’t brought into custody, not allowing a trial to go on. I can’t argue with the fact that sending gangsters into our prison system will result in recruiting for the gang. However, prison is already filled with recruiters. Yes, it is a scary to think about how many will come out due to one being put in but wouldn’t you rather have them off the streets as long as possible? Truth is, they’ll probably just wind up right back where they got recruited.

  7. Gang members snitching on other gang members has always been known as a no no. But finally justice has been served and to one of the most dangerous gangs across our nation. If you take someone's life, your life should be spent in prison. why would these case attorneys file for a new trial. Unless there is obvious clues that they did not do it, there is no reason for a new trial. I highly doubt they are going to find a clues from 2008 that would completely change this case around. Gang members of all gangs are known for dealing drugs, murders etc... So chances are the probably did it.

  8. Gang members trails involving murders and others telling on each other. it is rather odd, because when your on a gang and you snitch on one another you get killed. These members know they're not going to last and they have nothing to loose on snitching. Opening a new trial won't do much in my opinion. Trying to find evidence from nearly 4 years ago is nearly impossible. This case shouldn't grow, these individuals killed and should be punished for what they did, instead of just wasting time and money.

  9. I agree with everyone about “holding these gang members accountable for their criminal activity” is a good thing. Usually it is hard to convict gang members for criminal activity, due to the amount of fear that is put into the community by these gangs. Also, a lot of the crimes are committed against rival gang members. Rival gangs choose not to tell because they believe in retaliation, and it makes it hard to convict these criminals. In my opinion we also need to be productive about how to minimize gang recruitment once the gangs are put in jail. We are all aware that a lot of recruiting for gangs happens in jail, so putting a stop to the gang recruitment in jail will aid in the fight to get rid of the gangs entirely.

  10. The MS 13 is a very dangerous gang. Most of the El Salvadorian prison system is filled with members of this gang. In my opinion, there is not anything we can do to eliminate the gang permanently. Yes Gangs are in our prison system, and yes they will recruit inside the confines to add to their gang. How do we stop that? We cant! What we need to do is focus on putting more and more members of these gangs into the prison system. That will eliminate some just because of murders that go on inside the prison walls. I do find it odd that these members are willing to snitch. That is like writing your own death wish, a huge mistake by members of these gangs. Yes it helps us, but for their safety, it ruins them. They will be found, and they will be killed. Having members of a gang go inside prison though is honestly the best and only thing we can do without exterminating them outside the walls of prison. It is a sad life that these gang members live, but it is the life that they chose. More times than not, when released from prison, I would imagine they will be right back inside the jail within a two year period. Sad but true. However, in regards to this article I am glad the ones responsible were found and prosecuted. More times than not, the person who does commit the crime is not found and is not held accountable, one of his "brothers" takes the blame. That is all ok, because that person behind bars is probably a good thing, but our focus should be put into finding out exactly who the violator of the crime is.

  11. looking for a new trial or to open up a new one is just a desperate attempt for freedom. they were convicted of these crimes and deserve the punishment given. if they were snitched on by members of their own gang, thats just a risk they took by joining the gang and being associated with the type of people involved in that gang. most join for a type of brotherhood or family. so much for that idea

  12. I am glad that these six gang members were found guilty and will be sentenced. MS 13 members are known to be violent and are consider a very dangerous organization. I think the state of California is doing great job in prosecuting gang crimes and putting away individuals that deserve to be in jail and not in regular population. However by California prosecuting individuals that commit gang crimes, California does have a few problems with their criminal justice system. California is also known to be notorious for gangs and has an over population of individuals in jail. I do believe that if these individuals are given life sentences, then they would take space in jail, where they will become harden criminals and recruit more individuals into their gang.so I believe that they should be consider for the death penalty.

  13. The innocent people are the ones that seem to have to pay the highest price for the actions of gang members. For instance in this case two men lost their lives because a gang member thought that they were part of a rival gang. When in reality they were not part of any gang. The family members of these people have lost them forever. Not to mention the family members of the gang member they have also lost their family member to the gang life. Most likely he will be in prison for the rest of his life. I am glad to see that the actions of these gang members faced serious consequences and now have to live with what they have done for the rest of their life. What I do see as true tragedy is that many of these gang members are young and probably are in a gang out of necessity and not because they actually want to go out and kill people. Seeing that the youth of American is being lost is a very sad reality.

  14. Back in my youth, 3 years ago. I got many changes to meet and talk to many MS13 members. The company I was working gave me the opportunity to travel to and stay in San Salvador for expended periods of time. When we traveled there we came with C-130s loaded with medical and school supplies to give to the poor communities. MS13 not only helped us give these supplies to the people they also made sure none of the little gangs would bother us will we worked there. To read about 6 of their members getting changed and facing jail time kills me. The impression they gave me was not a gang of murders but a group of people that adapted to their surrounding and did what they needed to in order to survive.
