  2. Why prostitutes?

Jack the Ripper’s choice of victims were prostitutes, but why prostitutes? Some women lost their husband while immigrating to America, others were shunned by family members and forced to leave home. With limited skills and jobs available for women, in the 1800s many women turned toward prostitution as a means for survival.

Prostitutes were not regarded highly. In most cases, a percentage was given to a madam or the owner of the brothel. Higher waged prostitutes earned from 5 to 30 dollars per customer, and lower waged prostitutes earned from 25 cents to 1 dollar per customer. In the 1800s, prostitutes were very accessible and desperate to make profits. The life span of a prostitute was short due to disease, murder or dangerous abortions. (associatedcontent.com)

Lifestyle theory suggests, that people become victims because of the situation in which they put themselves. I can boldly say, these women did not want to be prostitutes yet fell into a compromising position in which Jack the Ripper prayed on. What was another dead hooker anyway?

  3. This investigation shed a new light on this historic case that has stumped criminal investigators for centuries. I do not believe Jack the Ripper’s first victim was Mary Ann Kelly simply because this kill was precise and incredibly brutal. Most killers lead up to such horrific crimes but committing similar crimes with less brutality and for this to be his first kill he was definitely very precise and efficient. Serial killers simply don’t wake up one day and decide to become serial killers, most have triggers that set off this behavior and most show signs early on in their criminal careers. I also never believed that Jack the Ripper could have committed such heinous crimes and then simply stop killing, which was reemphasized by Marriot who believed Jack the Ripper traveled to America and continued his killing spree. His first kill would have been sloppy and possibly more chaotic then the crimes he carried out later in his “career” but the more practice he obtained the less sloppy and more controlled his kills became. He chose a victim that most people consider less of a person simply because of their lifestyle and career choice, which helped him in avoiding law enforcement. Marriot’s research was very adequate and brought to light many questions people have had about this case. He followed his instincts, and the evidence to come up with a plausible suspect, and demonstrated how this man, Feigenbaum, could have committed these crimes. Jack the Ripper I believe also couldn’t have committed these crimes and then simply stopped by choice, which Marriot proved because Feigenbaum was incarcerated for a murder he committed in the USA. Killers like BTK for example, take “breaks” from killing but never completely stop unless forced to because of incarceration, which is what I believe happen with Jack the Ripper. . Even with all the evidence pointing to Feigenbaum, Kristi (who posted about this blog as well) makes a valid point in showing evidence that Tumblety could have been Jack the Ripper. I still have questions pertaining to the removing of organs in such a manner that points to a doctor or surgeon as a plausible suspect but no normal person could remove organs in such a precise manner. Marriot thought that the ME’s office could have removed these organs due to organ trade, and simply modified the autopsy report to cover up their criminal act. This does not seem plausible, nor is it realistic and therefore brings into question Feigenbaum as Jack the Ripper. This case will forever be a mystery, even after watching this video I am not completely convinced the case is closed.

  4. I believe that they have yet to discover who Jack the Ripper really was and that they are nowhere close.. No of the mentioned names seem to fit in with the details of the murderer. The way Jack killed his victims and handled them after death also had much detail and it would be to difficult to match a person based on coincidence. I can completely ruled out any woman from the choices. The way they attempt to tie a woman to the crimes sounds mythical because it sounds more like a coincidence that she kills the women because her husband cheated on her. And why would Jack the Ripper come to the United States knowing that laws are almost as strict as every other country? Why the United States instead of any other country. I believe this was said to scare people and make the story more popular.
