  1. The protests in the Ukraine began peacefully in three months ago when President Yanukovych’s government announced that it was seeking closer ties with Russia over an agreement to strengthen ties with the European Union. The protesters have every right to oppose this move by their government, since closer ties with the EU has the potential of strengthening the Ukraine economy and integration into the European community. However, the Ukraine needs to maintain their ties with Russia if they want to keep their economy afloat. Given the extent of these protests it is clear that President Yanukovych is only following the interests of him and his government. The extremity of the violence in Independence Square in Kiev is saddening because the people of the country want to be integrated into the European community, not just connected to Russia. It is clear that Yanukovych’s government was corrupt because now that several members have fled and the ICC may want to try them and Yanukovych for the violence that killed over eighty people in Kiev.

  2. It is very sad to see countries torn apart and turned upside down like this even in 2014. Although this is what America looked like during the civil war this situation is chaotic. It’s one thing to be at war with another country but it’s another to be at war with each other. This can serve as a wake-up call for me and rest of Americas who complain about live in America. Our president, our nation, our lives are nowhere near this. In Mexico, there is still some type of order with the drug lords and corrupted Mexican officials. In Ukraine, there is chaos.

  3. This struggle in the Ukraine is a very hard one to read about. But thus far the US has stated out of the conflict as I hope we do. Our military is already stretched too thin and our soldiers need to be brought home a long time ago. This conflict needs to be resolved without US help. Yes that maybe hard to grasp when people are dying over there but it is not out country and as I said before our soldiers need to be home. We have other pending direct threats that we as a nation need to take notice and worry about.

  4. The last thing the United States needs is to get involved in a war that it doesn't need to be a part of. The people who elected this president and the government of Ukraine is responsible for what is happening. I know the United States is supposed to serve as a peace keeper in the world but there is only so much that can be done. If the United States gets involved than the US will probably experience backlash from some of its citizens who protest the fact that they are risking the lives of soldiers when they don't really have to. It is very sad for the people of Ukraine to have to go through this but unfortunately the lack of control and organization that this government had led to this state of chaos and panic.

  5. What is happening in Ukraine is absolutely horrible. I cannot believe such riots are still going on. The government should be able to control the riots but not violence. I see why so many countries are worried about this dispute in Ukraine. Many of these countries can be affected by any outcome. Just like many of the other people of the United States I too worry about the U.S. getting involved in a war that will bring absolutely no benefit to our country. I understand it is the United States duty as one of the most powerful countries to help out other countries but we can help many other ways than just sending troops to help out in a war zone. I just hope everything happening between Ukraine and Russia settles down to where no other county has to get involved and so the people of both countries and the world can be at peace.

  6. There is a saying we learn the lesson; until we learn the lesson. History repeats once more. Russia a totalitarian regime has its sights set on Ukraine particularly Crimea; the region, which has a large Russian-speaking population and is home to one-fourth of the Russian Navy as well as natural gas is pumped through Ukrainian pipelines, Putin could hold that supply hostage. Ukraine is in political turmoil which is setting the stage for a takeover.

  7. Could World War III be in our immediate future. Lines are being drawn in the sand. The governing body the European Union is doing what it does best "nothing", the United States is posturing and issuing veiled threats. In the not to distant past Russia "Stalin" caused a famine in Ukraine killing 7,000,000.
Somethings are different. Russia is not the Russia of Stalin having embraced Crimea which is almost autonomous. If Russia stops with Crimea, I say no harm no foul. The major world concern would be the pipeline and the possibility of Russia using it has leverage to bully other European countries. So far Russia has not committed in human rights violations only international law violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

  8. It is sad to see another country in suffering; I don't think some people have learned from the past events that have happened through our history. I hope things settle down soon or we might end up having a World War III and since we do have technology that is much more advanced we might end up hurting more than we intend. The United States should not get involved is what is most important because first off it is not our war.

  9. I think the Ukraine people are justified in their actions. These revolts or riots are a to be seen as a statement. They will not back down without a fight. The people of Ukraine have the right to be their own country. They do not need a bullying Putin to control their land. The United States and other European countries are trying to prevent Ukraine from declaring a state of emergency, which enables their military forces. If Russia doesn’t stop showing aggressive force by lining the borders of Ukraine with its military, I think the Ukraine should declare a state of emergency. They need to have a fighting chance, if the controversy escalated to that point.

  10. Ukraine people are justified on the chaos and violence they are currently committing, I believe they can and must declare state of emergency to save their nation. World War III I must say is right around the corner if nothing is done to help them. Haven’t they learned that history repeats itself? Many of these countries are affected by the outcome this take including the United States. However this is the last thing United States needs right now, to get involved in a war that does not pertain to them directly. In this twentieth century is sad to see the situations some countries are in.

  12. This is a sad reality for the people of the Ukraine. People are dying from protesters and police conflicts. Over there peacful conflicts and peaceful protesting are not something that is practiced. I know that if the U.S. gets involved there will be grave dangers that will be posed on our poor soldiers. I know that if there is a more peaceful way to end this battle then this should be practiced instead of angry miltia type wars. Guns, killings, fires, and bombs are not the answer it just puts violence into the mix. I do not know what can be done but I hope a peaceful solution is coming and is stuck to among the different groups and people will agree to disaggree without loss of lives and anger killings. I really feel hurt of all the people that have lost their lives and their families. These are not deaths that are understood to be alright instead they are angry hate killings. I feel like the differences can be worked out without killing and murder. I can't see this as a situation that would be excused and understood and I think that if both sides would back down the situation would be more workable.

  13. Its so terrible to watch these people in Ukraine suffer that way as well as the issue of loosing control. Peoples lives are being taken everywhere very quickly even those of authority. Like Esther said above these are not just understood deaths, theses are hate killings and these people have families just as we do. The fact that they have woman pushing shopping carts down the street full of ammunition is absolutely bad enough. For the best of this country I hope that some peace somehow comes to them because for them right now it is all war, no peace.

  14. This issue is still on the rise with Russia now involving itself by a form of occupation. The citizens in Kiev of Ukraine do have a right to protest. They are the people of whom the government serves. I understand that violence is not the best way, but if the citizens are protesting an issue and the incumbent officials are responding in the same violent manner rather than hearing demands of the people, there will continue to be bloodshed. Our involvement in this is a hot issue. Sending troops might be a catalyst to igniting a larger western/eastern conflict. Especially with the rise of nationalism and neo-Nazism in this geographical area/Russia, this could very well be a product of political tension, economic instability and a number of other variables. A peaceful resolution is hoped for, but I believe political corruption could be a larger issue. I do not know Russia’s full involvement at all and wish not to accuse them of something I do not know. From what I do understand, Russia does have some political corruption. Is it possible that political corruption from Russia has influenced government offices of Ukraine? If the political power in Russia is benefiting from organized crime and Ukraine is in arms reach, it is very possible.

  15. It is crazy to see how other countries are fighting and killing each other in just seconds. I believe that the U.S. should not get involved because we already have our own problems and by helping Ukraine we are just going to create more problems. I understand that as one of the most powerful countries we should help Ukraine, but at the end we should not risk our troops for another country. The government should really do something immediately to help Ukraine it is obvious that they do not want to move one finger, but at the end they should think of all the innocent people who are being killed every day. I really hope everything settles down soon in order to prevent more deaths. It is extremely sad knowing that people are being killed left and right.

  16. With the loss of the Ukrainian government and Russia annexing Kiev I do sense a much more rising tension with Russia now. Though I don’t see World War III happening I do believe that we well go back to the days of the Cold War. It is also crazy how some Ukrainians in the east do consider themselves to be part of Russia causing many problems to rise in the country because the Ukrainians to the west don’t consider themselves as part of Russia; that there will be more violence in the country that’s without a doubt. Though it is hard to tell if Russia is willing to fight in order to take over the rest of the Ukraine that hard to tell: even if it does seem somewhat plausible right now.

  17. This year have seen alot of political change around the world. It seems like to me that people are just tried of getting push around by there government. Ukrainian is going to be in a civil war just because they are trying to align them self with ether the Russian or the Europe country. I feel like america should stay out of the whole deal and focus on other problems.

They are always at war with each other; a lot of people are worry about the U.S. getting involved with this war. We are always willing to help with other countries put our troops in that zone, this war between the UK and Russia. If only they will stop been so aggressive at the borders I just wish that we all can get a long we do not any more violence. Here in the U.S. we have our own problem here, I pray that everything over there cool down so no one else get kill ever county need a change

  19. I cannot believe the brutality of Yanukovych's elite police. They go to hospitals to seek out, arrest and beat badly injured protesters? This sounds like a crime against humanity and Yanukovych should be arrested and brought to justice. Why isn't the UN assisting in bringing about peace? God help the Ukrainian people. They have endured centuries of oppression from Russian rule. Yanukovych is not of Ukrainian heritage and would like to destroy Ukrainian language and culture just like the Russians have been doing for years.

  20. the united states do not need to get into this. america has appointed it self as the worlds police, but we here getting spread to thin. yes it is crazy over there and there might be committing crimes against there own people. but we need to have other country to step up. this year have been a crazy year for politic powers all over the world. but the world will view what is right from the winners. we should just see who that is. I do hope that the right group will win but no side is all right or there would not be two sides.

  21. The United States has always gone to help out those who do not ask for help. In the end we just mess up things that were none of out business and that is why other country's hate us. They were in need though but are we doing more wrong than right. The government is corrupt and we could possibly be helping out the bad guys and the last good guys left we end up killing them off. They should take care of their own problems and we the U.S. should mind our own business
