Genocide is defined as “The deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group.” While War is defined as “A conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air.” The two differ because Genocide focuses on killing one type of person meaning only men or only women or people of a certain age. Since there is not a certain group of people that are being placed in harm’s way this would be classified as a state war because it is within the boundaries. State war is the closes to the definition of genocide but because it’s main function is not the complete extermination of one group of people. Since there is a small difference between genocide and war there still needs to be something done about the situation in Sudan.
After reading this week’s report on endgenocide.com, referring to the war between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan people’s Liberation Movement-North that has raged for over eighteen months, I definitely feel that this situation demands immediate action on the part the African Union (AU) for a solution to end all the violence and bring peace to the people of Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile of Sudan. The destruction of bombing by the Sudanese Armed Forces in civilian communities and the killing and injuring of innocent civilians must be stopped now! Many of the women, children, and elderly now have little food or water or medical help, and the agencies of aid are not permitted to enter these areas. Hundreds of thousands in both the Sudanese States are now facing starvation, and possible famine in the land. The annual meeting of the African Union (AU), that met on January 25, 2013, mainly focused on the Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile crisis. I feel that through mediation, these intelligent leaders should be able to find an agreement that is equally satisfactory and beneficial to both sides which will successfully end this war immediately, and bring peace and help to the people who so desperately need it now. If this goal cannot be accomplished by the African Union (AU), then I strongly feel that the United Nations (UN) should assist in accomplishing these goals.
Ever since I can remember Abyei has been the hub of conflict between Sudan and South Sudan. Over this next week the AU leaders are addressing this issue and consequently shall be holding the governments of Sudan and South Sudan responsible for the negotiations over peaceful coexistence between the two. If an agreement is not reached ASAP I feel an outbreak of brutal violence in Abyei is inevitable. I do not know after so long if an agreement can be reached to make both parties happy but it needs to resolve as the violence is getting out of hand.
An agreement needs to be made to allow the humanitarian convoys in the war torn areas to help the women, children, and the elderly. It sounds like it will take more than a few days to get the fighting under control so the important thing is to get food, water, and medical supplies to those in need. Also to answer the question of genocide or war this is both genocide and war. They are not allowing the humanitarian convoys in to help the women, children, and elderly and this is causing death. The international community needs to get involved to get the fighting under control. You have some 350 African civil society groups putting pressure on the African Union (AU) to get an end to the violence in this area. Don’t other countries need to start putting pressure on the AU to get this under control? I guess you could say that if they want to fight let them but the humanitarian convoys need in to get the supplies and food to those in need.
after eight months of war between this two parties had cause more than 700,000 deaths, and the AU still doing nothing about it?. people with no access to food, health care or sanitize; are suffering because of this war. this has to stop, and from my point of view the leaders of Africa have to step in and find a solution to this difference, because all this innocent people are paying for it, children, women and elderly people have to go trough all this with out have anything to do with it. i tink that more countries should get involved into this and put some pressure over AU to stop this or at least come up with some solutions.
