Adam Wheeler....Utah Inmate Killed by Shooting Squad

Very interesting case of inmate in Utah who was executed by the firing squad. There are still 3 left who can choose this sentence. Very interesting...

  1. Good choice by Gardner. I know that if I was on death row, I would want to choose the most barbaric form of execution available to me. I would do this to hopefully open the eyes of the public to wrongful nature of the death penalty. Not a lot of people are aware to the fact that you can be executed by firing squad. Maybe this will help get the message out there.

  2. I find it intriguing how society becomes offended when punishment is meted out that they don't agree with. A firing squad is just as lethal as injection, however, it reminds society of our barbaric nature as we strive to be clean, moral, and ethical creatures. I agree with Nicholas, Wheeler was wise to choose as he did because his death caused quite a media stir. Hopefully this will cause some change in Utah's death penalty laws as its citizens attempt to justify alternative means of execution that make them feel less guilty.

  3. Very interesting indeed. His victim did not get to choose his manner of execution.

  4. Wow... I never thought we would go back to the firing squad as a form of execution. In my opinion the death penalty has always been inhumane and this form of execution just proves how inhumane the death penalty is. I hope this goes to show how barbaric we can be as human beings when it comes to killing someone as a form of punishment. Hopefully we will find a different alternative than this.

  5. Firing squad is definitely not the way to go in comparison...

  6. Well first off some of you guys are sick (nick). Anyways it is this man’s choice, I’m pretty sure he would have rather go out this way then a gilletten, drowning, stoning, or crushed to death as they did in the past. I don’t see what the big deal is; people get shot all the time yet when someone wants to be shot it makes headlines. Can’t really say that I'm concerned about this issue because in my mind its just one less person that tax dollars has to go towards. I wish I could see a public shooting squad kill someone, no not in a sick and twisted way but just to say I seen it and maybe I will grasp what the big deal is about it. All I can say is I would not have done the same but then again I would not be in jail because if I get caught I’m going out like a G ha ha. But big ups to you Adam Wheeler it takes a man to choose the way he is going to die. But as a side not does anyone know how much it pays to be part of a firing squad, if so let me know I'm interested.

  7. The bid deal, Delvin, is that we claim to be an advanced culture. We are capable of instant technology, life-saving medicines, and an infallible military power. But for all of our so called "advancements," how far have we really come? The reason that this issue is controversial is that Americans believe that they are civilized, and that values and morals rule our society. Execution by Firing Squad is a way of shoving it in the faces of Americans, saying that we have not come that far. For all of our ethics, we still use barbaric methods of punishment to "deter" crime in our society. This story is not about one man being shot, but it is about a symbolic message being sent to all of America, and that message is that despite thousands of years of developing civilizations, we are still nothing more than savage animals who kill without conscience.

  8. Compared to how society has grown through the ages pertaining to punishment and the death penalty, firing squad is that bad. Taking a life is an easy thing. It is painful no matter what, whether is for the family, the individual or the person taking the life. The fact is when someone is sentenced to death. There is no full proof painless plan. With the lethal infection, things can go wrong, which has been proven! Lethal injection shuts down your organs one by one until time of death, well for the brief amount of time the defendant is alive during the process of being put to death, I'm sure organ storm isn’t pleasant in the slightest. Electric chair, obviously things can go wrong with having thousand volts shot through your body and just putting your heart into over drive. It is the same thing as the paddles doctors use just small dosage of electricity. People wouldn’t always die immediately from it. As for firing squad, the article speaks enough there. There is no such thing as a pain free death penalty, our society does claim to be advanced and what not, but we are just handle crime differently. Being trapped in a cage fighting to stay somewhat insane while protecting your life and eating crappy food isn’t human, it prison. Having the death penalty isn’t human its murder. However, the men and women convicted to prison or death row got put there for a reason. Either live your life worrying about them being your neighbors, or live your life knowing that they will not harm you because they are in a cell or no longer amongst the living.

  9. During this class I have learned so many different ways that we used to punish criminals all the way back to the Roman days. They used to do some of the most brutal and gorry things to people. I learned how they said if you are innocent then god will protect you. Now a days things are very different, we either throw the keys away and they just die in prison or if they are on death row, most staes have the leathal injection, but as stated a few states still have other forms like the electric chair, or even hanging. To me hanging just seems so back in time, like who would ever really do that now. this man chose the firing squad, we don't know why he chose it but maybe it was his way of entertaining the world one last time before he died. You really never hear of the firing squad death sentence. If I was on death row and knew I was about to die I want the least painless way and I would want absolutely know attention brought to me. Evem though people would have to know I did something horrible to be on death row, but after that I just would want to go in peace.

  10. its very diffrent the way he had to die. but it shows you how many sick and twisted people there are in the world. also look at all the murder victims that are shot, i believe the killer should be killed the way he killed others. Rather it should be rape or torture nothing should be inhumaine as he did the exact same to others. just very sick people in the would now days. And he probably had nothing going for him as in the picture he was smiling

  11. I love hearing people being advocates about not having the death penalty or finding some way that is better but you never hear them offer any real solution. You have to do something with them. My question to you is what suggestions can you offer and what kind of experiences do you have with someone committing a violent crime against you or someone you know. I think that a person should have the same thing done to them that they did to someone else. That is if there is no doubt that they did the crime. For example a drunk driver should be put in a car sober like a crash dummy and be put into a horrific crash if that is what they caused. I had a friend killed by a drunk driver and he got off with little to no time. He knew what he was doing was wrong and he made the choice to get behind the wheel. My friend had to have his legs cut off to be able to be pulled from the car while he was alive and in the ambulance the paramedics said that he was telling them to tell his family and friends ( by name) that he loved them. He knew he was not going to make it. So what should be done? People have done less and served longer. The system is jacked up no matter which way you look at it. Okay, back to the main point. He should have not been able to choose which way he was going to die. The victim’s family should have been the one to choose. For us to get away from the barbaric ways you speak of, the victims should decide the fate of the criminal. If they say let him go, then we should let him go. That’s not going to happen!

  12. I dont think that the inmate should be the one who choose how they are killed i think the victims family should be the ones to pick it. By letting the inmate pick we are allowingf them to still control things in there life and when you take lives and you are sentence to death then you should lose all chqances to make choses and you are at the mercy of the family that you have made to suffer for the crime you have commited

  13. It's unfair that he will be executed without a full and fair review of his case."

He has had 25 years to get a full and fair review of his case. What the hell has he been doing for the last quarter century then?

What is there to review. He pleaded guilty to one murder, and committed the other in a court full of witnesses. He should have been dead decades ago. There needs to be a 5 year limit on appeals. If a person cannot win an appeal within 5 years, then off with their head.

All this crap with making one appeal after another, in a serial fashion, just to eat up time is crazy. Make all your appeals at once. Having one, then waiting years for it to wind through the courts, then when you lose, launching another one, and waiting years more, has got to stop.

  14. Why are we giving them the option of execution? Victims do not get asked how they would like to die, or do they? I’m from Texas, so I believe in the worst punishment or any killer and rapist. The way he died wasn’t harsh at all. He choosing how he wants to die lets me know that the system was trying to please the man. That’s just not right.

That’s allowing them, letting them still have control. The family of the victim/victims should pick how one is executed

  15. I see that no one spoke on behalf of the victim and what the they are the family endured. when are we as a country going to stop being passive about the way punishment are being administered. I would have to say it difficult for me not to approve such an event. I will always base my opinion on the facts and circumstances of the offense. We have to many appeals and it is taking it toll on the tax payers. To put a close it I would like to see the family members select the type of punishment to bring everything to a closure.

  16. Obviously this guy was a little “out there” to pick the firing squad but I guess ill go with the saying –whatever floats your boat. Just looking at him gave me the creeps. He had that look in his eyes of evil. But now on a serious note, this story was actually very interesting to me. In my many criminal justice classes I knew some states offered different executions but to actually have one recently is a bit shocking. I mean, it is uncommon and I believe that is why it is interesting. I do not feel sorry for this man because he obviously had no regard for human life. He showed this by the acts of murder that he committed. I personally am glad he picked a worse way to go because I hope he felt some of the pain that he caused his victims and their families. The choices still available also are a bit shocking as well. I am not sure if I am totally for the choices but I am not totally opposed to them either.
